The Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry was established in Boca Raton, Florida in 1996 for the purpose of providing supplemental food to primarily Jewish families in South Palm Beach County. The pantry was professionally managed by Ruth Rales Jewish Family Services until November 2012. During this sixteen year period, over $4,000,000 dollars was raised and used to provide food assistance to thousands of local families.
In January of 2013, The Forster Family Kosher Food Pantry created its Chicken For Shabbat program. The original program created by Gerry Golden and Bill Forster was designed to directly engage local synagogues and Jewish day schools to help raise funds to subsidize Shabbat dinners at agencies in Israel providing safety, education and shelter to children in distress.
In June 2013 we presented our Chicken for Shabbat program to Neil Newstein, CEO and Jenni Frumer, COO of the Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Palm Beach County. Their agency became our first associate agency. As a result of their great success with our program, they are now assisting other Jewish Family Service agencies throughout North America interested in doing a Chicken for Shabbat programs in their communities.
In August 2014 we developed our Turkeys for the Holidays program and presented it to Perry Borman, Executive Director of The Palm Beach County Food Bank. A partnership was formed. Our mission is to help raise awareness of the great work and service the Food Bank provides to over 100 of their agency associates throughout Palm Beach and to raise funds to provide free turkeys for them to distribute at no charge to these agencies.
In 2015 The Forster Family Pantry and Alpert Jewish Family & Children’service launched their first annual Chicken for Shabbat Tzedakah box program throughout Palm Beach. Over 3,500 children in synagogues, Jewish Day Schools and other agencies were taught the need to help others and decorated their own Chicken for Shabbat Tzedakah boxes raising over $10,000.00.
On November 7th and 8th 2015 at the Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton Florida the Forster Family Pantry produced and managed its first Palm Beach County Flying Pigs BBQ Festival to raise funds to provide the Palm Beach County Food Bank with thousands of free turkeys. We were very happy that United Way of Palm Beach County partnered with us on this festival.
